Privacy

Short version: no tracking, no ads, no accounts, no cookies of our own. What you paste into a tool stays in your browser. The server keeps a short technical log, like every web server.

Who is responsible

mrnx.net is a private, non-commercial website run by Marnix C. in Belgium, who is the data controller under the GDPR. Contact: [email protected].

What is processed when you visit

  • Server logs. The web server records each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, response status and your browser's user-agent string. These logs are used only to keep the site running and secure, are not shared or analysed for profiling, and are deleted automatically after about 14 days.
  • Cloudflare. Traffic to mrnx.net passes through Cloudflare, Inc., which provides the network connection and protection against attacks. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details on our behalf; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie (__cf_bm) to distinguish people from bots.
  • Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

What the tools do with your input

Most tools (subnet, VLSM, config & state diff, ACL tester, packet capture analyzer, MAC lookup, certificate decoder, email header analyzer, encoders and others) run entirely in your browser. Configurations, headers, certificates, tables you paste and capture files you open are never sent to the server and never stored.

A few tools need outside information and contact a third party only when you start a lookup. That service receives your query and your IP address:

ToolContacts
DNS lookup, SPF/DMARC/DKIM checker, domain health reportCloudflare DNS (cloudflare-dns.com) or, if you choose it, Google Public DNS (dns.google)
IP, ASN & WHOIS lookupRIPEstat (RIPE NCC), the RDAP servers of the regional internet registries (RIPE NCC, ARIN, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC) and rdap.org; DNS lookups as above
Bulk IP extractor (only when you click "Enrich")Only the public IP addresses found, never the rest of the log: RIPEstat (RIPE NCC) for owner and AS, and the Tor Project's exit list via Cloudflare DNS
Packet capture analyzer (only when you click "Enrich")Only the public IP addresses in the capture, never the packets: RIPEstat (RIPE NCC) for owner and AS, and the Tor Project's exit list via Cloudflare DNS

Japan trip: Money page (when opened online)Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev, api.frankfurter.app), for the European Central Bank's daily euro–yen rate. Nothing you type is sent.
Japan trip: Translate page (only when you open Google Translate or DeepL)Google Translate (Google LLC) or DeepL (DeepL SE), which receive the text you typed when their site or app opens. The "Translate" button uses your browser's built-in translator on your device and sends nothing; in browsers without one, it opens Google Translate instead.

Cookies and local storage

mrnx.net sets no cookies itself and uses no analytics. A few choices are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them: the light/dark theme, the vendors you pick in the command reference, and, on the Japan trip pages, the itinerary, the daily or your own exchange rate, saved phrases and dishes, the translator's chosen languages, quiz and kana progress, and packing list. The Japan trip pages also keep an offline copy of themselves in your browser's cache so they work without a connection; it holds only the pages, nothing you entered. A shared itinerary link carries the itinerary in the part after #, which browsers never send to the server. They never leave your device and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings.

Fonts are served from mrnx.net itself; no font or script is loaded from other sites.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of personal data about you, ask to restrict its processing, and object to it. Because the logs hold only IP addresses, please include the IP address and approximate time of your visit so the entries can be found. Write to [email protected].

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données).
